A power-loomed Kashan area rug. This wool rug features a Chinese Old Peking-inspired design in a palette of salmon, cream, mustard, and dusty blue. It begins with a round medallion composed of Chinese fretted key patterns, palmettes, and scrolling foliage. The medallion rests on a salmon-colored field, which is populated with discrete floral and palmette clusters, vases, with floral spandrels. Framing the field are compound borders, including a primary border grounded in cream, featuring round Chinese medallions amid scrolling vinework and palmettes. Selvedges are serged, the rug finishing at each end with tan applied fringe. It is labeled ‘Kashan’ on the reverse.
