Ricardo Morin Oil Painting on Unstretched Linen “Triangulation No. 40”

Item Details

An oil with ink painting on unstretched linen titled No. 40 from the Triangulation series by well-listed, American artist Ricardo Morin (Venezuela, b. 1954), dated 2009. To the verso is the artist’s signature and date. This painting is presented without a frame.

The series focuses on the interaction between the medium and contemplation, both the artist’s and the viewer’s. This intention is reflected in the process behind the aesthetic. Triangulation is a meditation on the golden ratio. Here, the ratio of 1:1.618 manifests in a triangle diverging from a plane that is paradoxically flat and has depth. Morin immigrated to the United States from Venezuela in 1972. Based in New York and New Jersey, Morin received his B.F.A. from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his M.F.A. at Yale University. His work has been exhibited at multiple institutions including the Bronx Museum of the Arts; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts in Brooklyn, New York; and many others. He is most well-known for his non-objective abstract paintings that exhibit a combination of linear delineation and fluidity.
