Nicholas Barbieri Incised Paper with Graphite

Item Details

An incised paper composition with graphite by Nicholas Barbieri (American, 1942-2013) created in 1977. The work depicts space using raised lines created from incisions made to the paper. Using an obtuse angle and a acute angle the work creates geometric shapes. To the verso, the work is signed and dated in ink. Presented in a painted black wooden frame under glass.

Nicholas Barbieri is best known for his use of repetitive circular motions in his abstract expressionist style paintings. He received his BFA with honors from Pratt Institute and continued his art education with an MFA at Lehman College. Barbieri’s exploration of the visual relationships and effects of light on form, structure, and space have evolved over his four-decade career. He has participated in many solo and group exhibitions and has his work in many private collections including the Clock Tower Gallery, Empire State Building-5th Avenue Gallery, Hundred Acres Gallery, and in The Hudson River Museum.
