A watercolor and ink painting on paper of an older couple by listed artist Rea Irvin (1881 – 1972). This drawing depicts an older woman handing a folder over to a man slumped in a large recliner, propping his feet and cane on an ottoman. To the lower margins is a handwritten ink inscription reading ‘Should Auld Aquaintance be Forgot’, which is complemented by a signature. The painting is presented under glass beneath matting in a gold tone wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso. Rea Irvin was the creator of The New Yorker’s renowned Eustace Tilley cover, in addition to serving as one of their first uncredited art editors.
