Clintel Steed Oil Painting on Canvas "Japan #3"

Item Details

An oil painting on canvas titled Japan #3 by listed contemporary artist Clintel Steed (New York, b. 1977) created in 2011. The work depicts an aerial view of planes and cars featuring vibrantly colored and thickly applied paint. To the verso, the work is signed and dated in paint. Presented unmounted and without a frame.

Clintel Steed grew up in a predominantly African American and Pentecostal community, which is an evident influence to his paintings. His work is a personal dialogue with African American culture, contemporary politics, and the Biblical struggle between good and evil. Stylistically, much of his work is rendered in thick impasto and expressionistic brushstrokes loosely applied throughout his compositions. He acquired his formal artistic training at the Art Institute of Chicago receiving a BFA in 1999 and his MFA from Indiana University in 2001. During his artistic career, he presented his work in multiple locations including the Indiana University Art Museum, New York Studio School and the National Academy of Design, among others.
