A 19th-century oil painting on academy board of a maritime scene by an artist signing the work ‘H.H.’ and dated 1895. The painting depicts seagulls flying through stormy skies and a masted ship being tossed around by rough ocean currents. It is signed and dated by hand to the lower left corner. This painting is presented without glass in a gold tone wood and gesso frame with a hanging string to the verso. Stamped to the verso is a label that reads ‘Academy Board For Oil Painting Prepared By George Rowney and Co./ London’.

- to fair; wear consistent with age and use; surface residue and debris present on composition; chipping to frame’s wood detailing; nicks and scuff marks to frame; discoloration to the frame; wear throughout frame’s finish; wear to the verso.
