Antique Neoclassical Style Barley Twist Rocking Chair

Item Details

An antique neoclassical style barley twist rocking chair with marquetry and mother-of-pearl inlay. This chair has a tall, narrow back with a cylindrical rail above a crest with floral and scrolled leaf marquetry accented by a mother-of-pearl garland inlay. The splayed legs have barley twist accent, tapering down to ball supports, which rest on the runners and are connected by a twisted H-stretcher. The bottom of the seat is unfinished and incised and painted ‘452.’

Condition

The arm on one side has been broken and repaired. This chair is for decorative use only. There is wear stained finish on seat and armrests consistent with age and use.
