A 1961 oil painting on masonite by listed Connecticut artist Donald Purdy (born 1924). The Expressionist-inspired work depicts a female figure sitting in side profile in a mottled blue and purple room, with a vase of colorful flowers set on a table to the foreground. The piece is signed ‘Purdy 61’ in dark blue paint to the lower left. It is presented without glass in a wooden frame with carved and painted accents, fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- small area of paint loss near signature and in upper left corner; edge wear and minor scratches to frame; tears to frame’s backing paper.
