A Persian Afshari Bijar area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of crimson, gray, pink, midnight blue, and ivory. It begins with a fringed hexagonal medallion with bright pendants at top and bottom, the medallion enclosing a smaller medallion of the same shape but in midnight blue. These rest on a hexagonal lozenge grounded in gray, the lozenge, in turn, resting on a crimson field with ivory spandrels. Each phase, from the central medallion to the spandrels, is filled with a classic herati pattern. Framing the field are compound borders, including a primary samovar border. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at top and bottom with short kilim skirts and wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
