19th Century Hepplewhite Mahogany Secretary Desk/ Bookcase
Item Details
A 19th century Hepplewhite secretary bookcase in mahogany, having a molded cornice and string-inlaid frieze, above two cross-banded doors with inlaid muntins and center floret inlay. The bookcase interior has three original shelves with reeded edge. The lower case features a deep drawer with flame mahogany and lion-mask ring-pulls, which has a hinged front that lowers to a damask covered writing surface and divided interior with tombstone-inlaid prospect door, six drawers with ring-pulls and eight valanced pigeon holes. Below are two cabinet doors, each having string-inlaid tombstone panels, over an interior with two replaced, plywood shelves. The case rests on French bracket feet. Circa 1800.
