A hand-knotted wool Hamadan wool area rug. This rug features a stepped diamond central medallion worked in shades of red, black, orange, gray, and ivory on a red field. The field is populated with geometric and floral designs in the same palette. The compound borders include meanders in black and white on a red background. The primary border has a white ground with spidery-crablike motifs in red, green, orange, wine, black, pink, taupe, and gray. Natural fringe to each end and overcast sewn selvedges. Unmarked.
