Signed Henry Sandbank Offset Lithograph “Grapes”

Item Details

By Hand

An offset lithographic print after an original still life photograph titled Grapes by well-noted 20th century advertising photographer Henry Sandbank (Germany/America, 1932 – 2011). This 2008 example of his work reflects his ability to “paint with light”. It depicts dark grapes to a white background. The print is signed in pencil within margin to the lower right and presented under glass, un-matted, in a stained wooden frame. A short article about the artist and his work is attached to the verso.

Early in his career, Sandbank worked as a Madison Avenue advertising photographer, later transitioned to directing television commercials, and lastly to the art of still life photography. His photographs are defined by their strong minimalistic imagery and speak to the graphic approach to his work. His work has been described as visually simple, yet technically complex.
