A diptych oil painting on a brass-toned metal plate titled P.R. Dreams by Clintel Steed (American, b. 1977). Depicted is an abstracted figure lounging on a porch with a view of the ocean behind them. The additional panel depicts a figure standing on the hood of a car with part of the porch in frame. The work is rendered with patches of vibrant colors, very thick impasto, and gestural brushstrokes that are characteristic of Steed’s style. Piece is comprised of multiple panels placed together to create sectioning and layering. Artist’s signature and title located to the verso. Presented mounted on wooden panel.

Clintel Steed grew up in a predominantly African American and Pentecostal community, which is an evident influence to his paintings. His work is a personal dialogue with African American culture, contemporary politics, and the Biblical struggle between good and evil. Stylistically, much of his work is rendered in thick impasto and expressionistic brushstrokes loosely applied throughout his compositions. He acquired his formal artistic training at the Art Institute of Chicago receiving a BFA in 1999 and his MFA from Indiana University in 2001. During his artistic career, he presented his work in multiple locations including the Indiana University Art Museum, New York Studio School and the National Academy of Design, among others.
