A lithograph on paper for the May 1897 folio cover of Estampe Moderne designed by well-listed artist Alphonse Mucha (Czech; 1860-1939). Depicted is a woman with long hair in distinct Art Neauvou style holding a pen delicately between her thumb and pointer finger. L’Estampe Moderne appeared in 1897-1899 as a series of 24 monthly fascicles and printed by Imprimerie Champenois of Paris. Many accomplished European Art Nouveau painters contributed works to this publication. Piece stamped in plate with the artist’s name to the lower left margin. Housed in an Art Neauvou style lemon gilt and gesso frame under acrylic glass and linen matting.
Condition
- wear and loss of gesso to frame; cracks in gesso of frame; piece missing to upper right corner of frame; dust present throughout.
