An oil painting on canvas of a nocturne landscape by well-listed artist Hudson Mindell Kitchell (American, 1862 – 1944). The work depicts a rolling landscape with rich yellow dusk light. Signed by the artist to the lower left corner. Housed in a gilt and gesso wood frame. Kitchell was well-known for his marine and nocturne paintings.
Condition
- significant loss to the gesso decorations on frame, concentrated along the left corners; a tear to the lower right portion of the canvas, measuring 2" wide and 2.5" high; discoloration to the canvas verso; torn paper backing; craquelure.
