PRIORITY-Hand-Knotted Kazak Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Kazak wool area rug. The rug features an abrash madder red field populated by a pair of diamond motifs infilled with eight-pointed stars and surrounded by ram’s horn motifs. These central designs have been worked in an abrash palette in shades of jade green, indigo, ivory, light blue, and peach. They are flanked by diamond motifs with jade green backgrounds and eight-pointed stars. The area surrounding the large motifs has a delicate tracery design which reiterates the ram’s horn motifs in the center. There is a row of lobed flowers on each side of the field. One one side of the rug they are infilled with peach while on the other they have been worked only in outline, with blue centers. The wide compound border includes leaves, guard borders in red, a carnation meander design, and a wide border with lozenges., all worked in the same palette. The checked selvedges are double overcast. Short fringe to each end. Unmarked.
