Peter Keil Original Oil Painting on Panel "The Great Ape"
Item Details
An original pastel painting on panel by very well-listed and prolific contemporary German Neo-Expressionist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942), titled The Great Ape per consignor. The painting depicts a highly-abstracted face painted in thick black linework set against shapes painted in green, purple, and pale pink against a white background. The painting is signed and dated in black pastel to the lower margin. It is presented without matting or framing awaiting your choice of presentation.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
