Peter Keil Original Oil Painting on Panel

Item Details

An original oil painting on panel by very well-listed and prolific contemporary German Neo-Expressionist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942). The painting depicts a simple, minimalist portrait of a frowning face painted in broad black strokes against a patch of orange paint. The painting is signed in black to the lower left. It is presented without matting or framing awaiting your choice of presentation.

Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
