Item Details
An antique oil on canvas portrait signed George E. Cooke. George Eston Cooke (American, 1793 – 1849) was known primarily as a portrait painter. This fine example of his work depicts an elderly man dressed in a black coat against a dark background. It is signed in dark red to the lower right of the canvas and presented in a period gilt wood frame.
Condition
- overall. Small chip to the paint on the man’s forehead; the canvas is loose in the frame; some nicks, separation, and minor repairs to the frame. The light is untested.
