An oil painting on board titled Monhegan Coast by listed, Pennsylvania artist Antonio Pietro Martino (1902-1988). This painting features an ominous landscape viewed from among large, mist-covered boulders rendered with cool tonalities. It is signed to the lower right corner. This painting is presented in a white, linen mat and housed in a wood frame without glass; fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Antonio Martino was born in Pennsylvania and is well-known for his impressionistic, plein air landscape and still-life paintings. He began painting at a young age entering his first exhibition when he was seventeen. Martino went to art school at the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art, and has won over eighty awards for his artwork. Some of his work now resides in the Whitney Museum, New York, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Butler Institute of American Art, Ohio.
