Paul Schaaphaus Oil on Canvas After Jean-Honore Fragonard's "The Swing"

An oil painting on canvas by Paul Schaaphaus after an original painting titled The Swing by well-listed artist Jean-Honore Fragonard (1732–1806). The original painting is currently housed at the Wallace Collection in London, England. This painting depicts a fair young woman being propelled in a swing while a young man hides in the bushes from a vantage point that allows him to see up her dress. There is no visible artist’s signature. The painting is presented unframed with a metal hanging wire to the verso. Affixed to the verso is a label and hand inscribed note specifying the title and artist.

- to fair; craquelure throughout composition; areas of surface abrasions with subsequent paint loss; dent and small tear to the lower right margin of canvas; edge and corner wear to canvas; wear to the verso; toning to the verso.
