A graphite drawing by Boris Chaliapin (Russian/American 1904–1979) of Jacqueline Basch. It depicts a seated nude woman with arms crossed looking directly at the viewer. It is inscribed ‘To Jacqueline Basch my favoririte (sic) model from Boris Chaliapin. 1965.’ to the lower right. It is mounted under glass in a narrow black wooden frame that is wired for hanging. Boris Chaliapin was the son of Russian opera singer Feodor Chaliapin and was known for his portraits. A clipping from Time magazine is attached to the verso cites Chaliapin with creating over 400 cover portraits for the publication.
Condition
- paper is slightly toned; minor scratches to the edge of the frame.
