1888 Hand-Colored Engraving after Mauritz F. H. de Haas "Going Westward"

An 1888 hand-colored engraving on paper after an original painting by very well-listed Dutch-American maritime painter Mauritz Frederik Hendrick de Haas (1832 – 1895), titled Going Westward. The piece’s plate was engraved by well-known American printmaker Stephen Alonzo Schoff (1818 – 1904). It depicts a large schooner making its way across a choppy body of water under the cover of nightfall as a bright full moon illuminates the scene. The print is signed in-plate to the lower left, and both artists’ names are printed to the lower corners. The title is printed to the lower right, and copyright information is printed to the upper right. Presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.

- spotty, dark accretion across upper right of print. Light creasing across.
