An antique French Napoleon III figural clock. This heavy ornate clock, circa 1880s, features two cast bronze muses with a dark patination finish. The child-like figure is holding a writing instrument in her right hand and a tablet in her left. The adult figure is holding a lyre in her left hand while her arm is draped across the younger figure’s neck. Both figures sit upon a toned slate base with gadrooned borders, heavy relief, and foliate bracket feet. The gilt wash enameled clock face has black Roman numerals and black hour and minute hands. Slots for winding are near the 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock position.
