Navajo Sand Paintings
Item Details
A pair of figural Navajo sand paintings. The first depicts a figure to the center of the composition wearing a ceremonial cape and belt trimmed with feathers. The painting has a double matted and housed in a beveled oak frame with natural finish. To the verso is a label that reads ‘(Yei-Be-Chai) This sand painting made out of natural sandstone and design, R. Begay’. The second painting features a figure to the center of the composition wearing ceremonial clothes and holding plants or herbs in one hand and a round object in the other hand. The painting is housed in a beveled oak frame with a muted orange fabric inset. Inscribed by hand to the verso reads ‘Healing God’, ‘This is a Navajo ceremonial sand painting design. This is all made of natural color sand.’ Signed ‘I. Clark’. Both works are ready to hang with hanging hardware to the versos.

Condition
- light surface wear throughout frames; wear to the verso of one.
