Hand-Knotted Persian Double Medallion Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian double medallion area rug. This wool pile rug has grey wool warp threads and double medallions set in a field of orange red filled with meandering flowers of dark red and pale orange. The dark blue medallions are decorated with geometric shapes and flowers in brownish red, coral, orange red, white and pale blue. The rug has a complex, compound border of ‘S’ forms, running water design and serrated leaves with rectilinear elements in the field colors. It has a wide primary border of stylized symbolic elements, bound by an ‘arrow’ band. Each side of the rug has a panel of boteh in red, ochre and orange on an indigo ground. It has overcast edges and a woven kilim panel to each end, terminating in long, hand-tied undyed wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
