A Japanese Kutani ware porcelain plate. This signed piece is likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. The work depicts villagers in a seaside town who appear concerned about the active volcano in the distance. Their colorful kimonos are accented with gilt patterns; the plate is jeweled throughout. This vignette is framed by a red and gold botanical border. It is signed to the verso: ‘Made in Kaga Province by Oda’ (加賀国織田製).’
