A hand-knotted Persian Yalameh area rug. This wool tribal rug features a tile lattice pattern of hooked diamonds and hexagons in a palette of cornsilk, sapphire, cream, crimson, ivory, and midnight blue. Populating the tiles are depictions of a variety of different types of birds in different sizes, eight-point stars, arrows, and serpent motifs. The field is framed by four borders, including a well-defined crab primary border and laleh abbasi, serpent and sawtooth minor borders. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts and ivory wool warp fringe. Unlabeled.
