Victor Child Oil Paintings on Board Rural Landscapes

A pair of oil paintings on board of rural landscapes by listed artist Victor Child (active late 19th/early 20th century). Portrayed with pastel palettes, thick brushstrokes, and suppressed details, these works feature generalized depictions of hilly terrains, one of which includes a barn to the right. The paintings are signed to the lower right; one is also dated 1923. Handwriting is present to the versos of both compositions, one of which reads ‘Farm Lands Near Port Hope, Ont.’ Both compositions are presented in matching gray wood frames with black painted outer edges, shallow concave coves, and gold-tone sight edges.

Condition

- dirt and stains scattered throughout paintings; wear throughout frames includes scratches, small chips, finish loss, and stains scattered throughout; ripped paper backing.
