An oil painting on canvas board titled Man from Upper Volta, Africa by Rosemary Leary, created in 1969. This heraldic composition features a portrait of an African man flanked by two elaborate West African masks. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right; it is presented in a distressed wood frame. Handwriting to the verso provides the title and fully reads ‘Man from Upper Volta, Africa with masks of Bobo Uli and Bobo Fing by Rosemary L. Leary, Rochester, N.Y.’ The artist’s address label is also adhered to the verso.
Condition
- wear in frame includes chips, scratches, and stains scattered throughout; ripped paper backing; some dust and dirt collected in upper left corner of painting; top edge of canvas board is loose and projected slightly forward.
