19th-Century French School Landscape Painting on Canvas
Item Details
A late 19th-century French School oil painting on canvas landscape scene. To the right of the composition appears an outcrop of land with stocky trees and thick canopies along the shallows of a body of water. Across the spanning lake or river is a townscape along the water’s edge, obscured by pale tones and the vast distance. The muted tones and painterly quality over linearity are consistent with the Barbizon influence. Presented in a gilt and gesso wood frame with top moulding and a beveled frame liner without glass.
