Bronze Figure After Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse's "Julius Caesar"

A bronze figure after a 19th-century sculpture of Julius Caesar by listed French artist Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse (1824 – 1887). The Rococo Revival inspired piece depicts the Roman consul sitting on an opulent bench in deep contemplation. He is shown with one hand raised to his chin with the other holding his sword. The piece rests on a stepped base marked with the subject’s name in Roman-era lettering to the front. The piece is signed ‘A. Carrier’ in mold to one side of the bench. It is made of bronze, cast in several pieces, and stamped ‘1330’ on the underside.
