Item Details
By Hand
A limited edition serigraph on paper titled Prince in Blue by well-listed artist Peter Max (b.1937), created in 1973. This print depicts a figure wing a red cape with a large orange hat. The profile of a figure is rendered along the bottom of the figure from the background. This work is numbered 33 out of an edition of 100 with an inscription to the bottom center. This work is signed and dated by hand to the lower right corner. Presented behind glass in a white mat and black wood frame.
Max received his formal art education in the 1950s at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where he studied under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. Max began his career in illustration and graphic arts by creating collage-based works using elements taken from antique photographs. His interest in astronomy led to his self-described “Cosmic ’60s” period, where his art became a symbol of the counter-culture with its flamboyant use of bright rainbow colors and psychedelic images. American icons such as Bill Clinton, Taylor Swift, and Mohammed Ali appear in his works, along with other elements such as the Statue Of Liberty, peace signs, butterflies, and flying saucers.
