Antique Chinese Lacquered Wooden Tea Caddy in the Form of a Butterfly

A fine antique Chinese tea caddy, mid 19th century in the form of a butterfly, made of lacquered wood and features hand painted vignettes of domestic scenes and lotus leaf design in gold tone and black.. The butterfly shaped box has a hinged lid with lock and opens to removable pewter lids and bowls with compartments for transporting and serving tea. The box sits on carved guardian lion feet.
