An acrylic paining on paper by color field painter John McLean. Through the composition are bold planes of opaque color rendered in thin applications and wide brush strokes. Inspired by Matisse and Miró, spontaneous and bold strokes are applied rhythmically in an all over composition. John McLean studied at St Andrews University from 1957-1962 and at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London from 1963-1966. McLean taught at various art schools in London from 1966.
