An oil and enamel painting in the manner of Jackson Pollock. Lyrical layers of paint float in a light, open background with repetitive looping lines, splatters, and drips intertwine and mesh together to obscure the ground. The paint has been applied in multiple sessions of calculated drips and splatters upon the paper. The abstract expressionist type of formless painting and an all over composition points to the style of Pollock. The work is presented behind glass, mounted to black, with a gilt and black decorated frame.

The painting belonged to artist Lucy Baker and art critic and curator Kenworth Moffett. Lucy’s family lore has it that the painting was purchased by her parents from Pollock himself. She remembers it being displayed in her childhood home and ultimately being passed down to her in later years. Perhaps some of Lucy’s early influence came from seeing this work hanging in her home. The type of ‘process’ painting that ultimately inspired her greatest works. The New New Painters group are often referred to as ‘Pollock type’ painters. This style of painting, methodical layering of paint with special attention to the interaction of mediums and colors, drove the New New group and their innovative styles.

- small pinholes in the corners of the paper; paint has adhered to the glass over time.
