Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Area Rug

A large semi-antique Persian rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of sapphire, cranberry, ivory, and emerald. It begins with a very large ogival medallion with pendants at the top and bottom, over a cranberry-colored field. The field is populated with sprays of flowers and cornered with deep floral spandrels phased in ivory, emerald, crimson, and sapphire. Framing the field are compound borders, including a herati main border over cranberry. Selvedges are overcast. Ends finish with short cotton warp fringe. The rug is labeled on the reverse.
