Hand-Knotted Indo-Persian "Jewel of Kashmir" Silk Area Rug

A hand-knotted Indo-Persian silk accent rug, Jewel of Kashmir from Shaw Art Palace, New Dehli. The rug features a lozenge medallion surrounded by large lobes infilled with palmette, floral, and arabesque designs. The motifs are worked in shades of sienna, sand, camel, robin’s egg blue, steel gray, peach, maize, sage green, coffee, and black, on a black ground. Flowers and foliage with arabesque leaves infill the lighter areas which protrude toward the center from the compound border. The guard borders feature small flowers worked in the same palette. The primary border has sienna background and is infilled with palmettes and meandering vines. White silk fringe to each end. The undersides of the ends have a woven stiffener applied to keep the ends flat. Identifying label attached to reverse.
