After Henri Matisse "Thousand and One Nights" Serigraph

Item Details

In Plate

A serigraph after Henri Matisse (French, 1869–1954) titled Thousand and One Nights. The original was produced as a gouache paper collage with brightly painted sheets of paper cut out with long scissors. The piece tells the tale from Arabian Nights and the main character of Scheherazade. The continuing refrain, “elle vit apparaitre le matin/elle se tut discrètement” (“as dawn approached, she discreetly fell silent”) is printed in the upper right corner. This later print has a printed signature and date in plate reading “H. Matisse Juin 50” and is mounted under glass with a white mat in a black metal frame.
