Painted Empire Chest with Secretary by Paine Furniture Co.
Item Details
A vintage Paine Furniture Co. empire cabinet with desk. The cabinet features a rectangular top over a shallow drawer with a center cameo flanked by flowered swags. The drawer is fitted with brass-toned metal ring pulls. The midsection features three squared panels with the center embellished with a low relief floral carving painted yellow and framed. The midsection drops to form a desktop with a drawer and open cubbies. The cabinet continues with two machine dovetail constructed drawers with the same brass-toned metal ring pulls. The piece rises on four turned and tapered legs. The chest is marked with a brass Paine Furniture tag inside the top drawer.
The Paine Furniture Co of Boston Mass. used brass tags, like this one, between 1928-1943.
