A hand-colored engraving on paper by listed French artist Bernard Baron (1696 – 1762) after a work by listed British artist William Hogarth (1697 – 1764) titled Evening from his Four Times of the Day series. The genre piece depicts a scene of typical 18th-century life, as shown in the afternoon hours. The print is titled in plate to the lower center with in-plate notations to the lower margin of ‘Invented Painted & Published by Wm. Hogarth March 25th, 1738, According to Act of Parliament’ and ‘Engraved by B. Barron, Price 5 Shillings’. The print is matted in off-white and presented under glass in a wooden frame with gold tone accent, fitted with hanging wire to the verso. Also included is a 1973 paperback copy of Engravings by Hogarth: 101 Prints edited by Sean Shesgreen and published by Dover Publications of New York.
