Erté Limited Edition Embossed Serigraph "Veil Gown"

Item Details

A signed, limited edition serigraph with metallic embossing on arches paper titled Veil Gown by Russian artist Erté, also known as Romain De Tirtoff (1892 – 1990), dated 1986. This screenprint depicts a woman standing with both arms extended and wearing a white gown and cathedral length veil flowing down her back and laying on ground swirling around her feet. The print is numbered 41 in an edition of 150 to the lower left and signed by hand in graphite to the lower right. Mounted under a double layer of white and gold tone accented matting, the print is presented under acrylic glass in a black wood frame with a gold tone border. A wire for hanging purposes is present to the verso.

Erté was born Roman Petrovich Tirtov, to a distinguished military family in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1910 he would move to Paris and change his name to avoid embarrassing his family so he could work as an artist. Erté would go onto an illustrious career as a costume, set designer, artist and illustrator working on The Follies Bergère, The Ziegfeld Follies and for publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Ladies Home Journal, Cosmopolitan and Vogue.
