Wedgwood White on Black Jasperware Covered Jar "Maternal Affection"

Item Details

A Wedgwood white on black jasperware covered tobacco jar. The piece is decorated with a white Grecian cameo relief titled, Maternal Affection, featuring Hera with a peacock, Demeter, a cupid, children and various other individuals among foliage. An acorn leaf wreath garnishes the lid’s lip with detailed foliage covering the top of the lid. This piece was fashioned after the Maternal Affection design which was originally created by Lady Elizabeth Templetown (fl.1783-1789) in c.1788. This piece is marked to bottom “Wedgwood Made in England”.
