An original early-20th-century oil painting on canvas by well-listed Dutch painter F.G. Grust (born 1889). The painting depicts a young woman with two children playing on the sandy shore of a bay. Tall sailboats float on the rippling water behind the figures, and a silhouetted windmill stands in the distance. The painting is completed in short, Impressionistic strokes of neutral-toned pain. It is signed in dark brown to the lower left. The piece is presented in a large wooden frame with cast surface embellishments, gold-tone finish, and a hanging wire. Grust was the son of well-listed Dutch genre painter Theodor Grust (1859 – 1909), and was best-known for his genre paintings of Dutch families such as this one.
Condition
- light accretion to painting’s surface. Light cracking across finish of frame.
