A vintage European triple medallion back carved walnut and beach sofa. This sofa with an exuberantly carved walnut and beech frame contains an eclectic assemblage of design motifs, skillfully carved on the sofa arms, skirt and the pierced medallion back. The center medallion of the sofa is carved on the top with a bouquet of flowers set between acanthus leaves, the adjoining medallions are carved at the top with an escallop above a Florentine fleur-de-lys between acanthus leaves above an egg and dart border. Between the medallions are two pierced carvings with a central cartouche bearing a Florentine fleur-de-lys within a surround of acanthus leaves topped by an artichoke. The arms of the sofa are carved on top with acanthus leaves that rest and terminate around carved putti. The skirt of the sofa is carved between each of the four front legs with a centered artichoke, between acanthus leaves above a string of bell flowers, the sides of the skirt of the sofa being similarly carved. The highly stylized scrolled cabriole legs are each topped with an artichoke at the skirt. The sofa is upholstered in an aquamarine crushed velvet with three fitted removable seat pillows.
