A hand-knotted Tabriz area rug. This wool rug features a central medallion in a field of arabesque floral sprays and vinework with corner spandrels that offer a large lotus-like pattern, in a palette of cream, madder red, rose, cyan, royal blue, and midnight blue. The primary border offers panels of roses and palmettes that repeat throughout, flanked by two carnation guard borders. The rug is finished with overcast edges and a natural warp fringe at either end. The rug is marked ‘Made In Iran’ to the reverse.
