Hugo Zacchini Original Antique Charcoal Drawing
Item Details
Charcoal on paper
An original early-20th century charcoal drawing on paper by well-listed American figure painter and circus performer Hugo Zacchini (1896 – 1975). The curious drawing seems to depict a scene inspired by Zacchini’s circus days. A bald man stands over a small yapping dog as two figures look on. The image is drawn in loose, aggressive linework. The drawing is signed to its lower edge and is presented without matting or framing, but is currently wrapped in acetate with a foam core backing for safekeeping. Zacchini left his home to study at the Rome Art Academy at the age of 9. He eventually joined the Ringling Brothers circus and became the first “Human Cannonball.” More information can be found under Additional Information.
