Hand-Knotted and Carved Chinese Area Rug

A hand-knotted and carved Chinese area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of cerulean, cream, camel, and cocoa. It features a Chinese vase design beginning with a round, fretted medallion with palmettes and scrollwork over a cerulean field. Arranged around the medallion are widely spaced vases and cloudband motifs, the spandrels featuring reshaped iterations of the elements in the medallion. The field is framed by three borders, grounded in camel, cream, and cerulean, the main border featuring cloudband ribbons, flowers, and foliage. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short kilim skirts and ivory wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
