An oil on canvas painting of an abstracted landscape scene Irving Amen (American, 1918-2011). The large painting illustrates in vibrant color-block, a Venetian foot bridge over a canal with the reflection of a pink palazzo in the water. The artist’s signature is found in the lower right and the painting is presented in gilt wood frame with laurel leaf top moulding.
Irving Amen studied art at the Pratt Institute and later in Paris. He is known for his paintings, woodblock printing, stained glass and sculpture. He is listed in the Dictionary of Contemporary American Artists by Cummings and was elected as a member of the Academia Florentina della Arti Del Disegno which also included Michelangelo as a member. His work can be found in The Museum of Modern Art, NY, The Metropolitan Museum, NY, Boston Museum of Fine Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Cincinnati Art Museum, The Smithsonian, Washington DC as well as museums in London, Jerusalem, Brussels, Germany, Austria, New Zealand and Canada.
