A large antique Persian Bijar area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in an abrashed palette of midnight blue, madder red, sapphire, and cornsilk. It features a harshang field incorporating large palmettes, flowers, leaves, and vines over midnight blue. The field is framed by three borders, including an early version of the turtle pattern, featuring branched palmettes and stylized leaves, over madder red. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with thick undyed wool warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
